CONTEST RULES

PRE-CONVENTION CONTESTS

CLUB CONTESTS

Skit

Skits must be original and related to the Convention theme. Skits will undergo a preliminary judging prior to the Convention to determine three finalists. These finalists will perform their skits during the Convention to determine the top three places. To be eligible for judging, clubs must submit, postmarked by the Pre-Convention contest entry deadline:

  • four typed, double-spaced copies of the script, including stage directions
  • a videotape of the entire skit (see directions below)

The videotape performance should use no costumes or scenery. Hand-held props absolutely necessary to the execution of the plot are allowed. Scripts may be used. Breaks in the taping for directing, etc. are permitted; the tape should not be edited. The camera should remain in one fixed location throughout the performance. Please use VHS; slides are unacceptable, as acting cannot be evaluated. The judges will be instructed to disregard imperfections in videotaping and will understand that the performance may not yet be polished. The sole purpose of this videotape is to compare the potential of the performance to that of the written script. The videotape serves only to complement the script, which will remain the focus of the preliminary judging. Scripts cannot be returned, but tapes will be returned during the Convention.

The top three places from the preliminary judging will be notified in time to prepare for the final performance, which will take place on the first evening of Convention. The final judging will involve an actual performance of the skits. Each club is responsible for supplying its own props, costumes, and set-up for its performance.
